Privacy Tips
Practical tips for keeping more of your life to yourself, on SKILLFLIRT and elsewhere.
On your SKILLFLIRT profile
- Skip the workplace. "Marketing manager at Big Co" is identifying. "Works in marketing" is enough.
- Avoid school uniforms / building backdrops in photos that pin down your physical location.
- Don't use your full name as username. "alexj_27" is fine, "alexjohnson1996" is too findable.
- Reverse-image search your own profile photo before posting — if it's already on your LinkedIn, anyone can connect the dots.
- Use a fresh photo not posted anywhere else. Different framing helps too.
Chat hygiene
- Keep chat on SKILLFLIRT until you trust them. The moment they push hard to move to WhatsApp / Telegram, ask yourself why.
- Don't share photos with identifying landmarks (your street, your local coffee shop, your gym) until you've met.
- Don't share intimate images with people you haven't met in real life — even with people you have. Once it leaves your device, you don't control where it goes.
Account hygiene
- Use a password manager. Unique 16+ character password for SKILLFLIRT, different from your email and other apps. We recommend 1Password, Bitwarden, or your phone's built-in keychain.
- Use a dedicated email address for dating apps. Gmail's "+suffix" trick works:
yourname+skillflirt@gmail.comroutes to your main inbox but is unique to us. - Turn off photo metadata stripping: most modern phones strip EXIF (location) when you upload to an app, but check your camera settings to be sure.
- Phone-lock your device. If someone steals your unlocked phone, they're logged into every dating app you use.
Outside SKILLFLIRT
- Lock down social profiles the moment you start dating online. Friends-only on Facebook, private on Instagram, scrub LinkedIn workplace photos.
- Reverse-search the date. Their name + city in Google often reveals public profiles you didn't know they had.
- Use signal forwarding apps (Google Voice, Skype) for the phone number you give out before meeting in person.
If your account is compromised
- Open the SKILLFLIRT app → Settings → Change password (forces all other sessions to log out).
- Email security@skillflirt.com — we'll review the audit log and tell you what was changed during the unauthorised window.
- Check your email account — most compromises happen because the email is compromised first. Change that password too.
- If money was charged to your card without your consent, dispute it with your bank within 24 hours for the best chance of recovery.
